Summary:
Seraphina meets Red Rising in a debut young adult fantasy that's full of rivalry, romance... and dragons. Annie and Lee were just children when a brutal revolution changed their world, giving everyone—even the lowborn—a chance to test into the governing class of dragonriders. Now they are both rising stars in the new regime, despite backgrounds that couldn’t be more different. Annie’s lowborn family was executed by dragonfire, while Lee’s aristocratic family was murdered by revolutionaries. Growing up in the same orphanage forged their friendship, and seven years of training have made them rivals for the top position in the dragonriding fleet. But everything changes when survivors from the old regime surface, bent on reclaiming the city. With war on the horizon and his relationship with Annie changing fast, Lee must choose to kill the only family he has left or to betray everything he’s come to believe in. And Annie must decide whether to protect the boy she loves . . . or step up to be the champion her city needs. From debut author Rosaria Munda comes a gripping adventure that calls into question which matters most: the family you were born into, or the one you’ve chosen.

*Thank you so much G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young and NetGalley for the opportunity to review Fireborne!*

It's officially the year of the dragons for YA. So many books coming out this year that feature dragons and I am here for it. If I could scream from the rooftops to read Fireborne I would. Munda's debut novel did not disappoint for a minute. An action packed emotional thrill ride that incorporates the destruction and formation of new government. Told in the point of view of Lee and Annie, it gives an interesting view of two different sides of this revolution and how it strains their friendship.

  • DRAGONS! I love dragons and this book is jammed packed with them!

  • I loved Annie's character!Annie starts off as the shy girl who can't speak up for herself, to one of the four champions and then in competition with Lee to become First Rider. Annie's growth from page one is exceptional and I can't wait to see where Munda is going to take her next.

  • Non. Stop. Action.

  • Lee! My heart aches for him. (Well, it does for Annie too, but once you read you'll understand what I mean.) From his POV we see the internal conflict of a boy who is dragonborne living is a world where everything he believed in has been torn a part. He battles between the right and wrong and what he wants. What is right. What is wrong. Like Annie, I am excited to see Munda is going to take Lee in the next book!

  • The. Romance! No. Words. At. All.

  • Fun fact: Munda used Plato's Republic as inspiration for Fireborne!

That is all I am going to spill about Fireborne for now. (I can't wait until more people read this book so I can vent all my pent up emotions of having to wait for the next book!) Fireborne is a must read for 2019, so make sure to add it to your TBR! Check back soon for the full review and an exclusive interview with Rosaria Munda about Fireborne
