#TeaTime Rewind: How To Care For Your Books (Episode #71)

Hello there, crumpets, and welcome back to our second #TeaTime rewind blog post! For those of you who don't know, #TeaTime is a weekly (bi-weekly in the summertime--although it becomes weekly again as of next week) YouTube livestream with two of the most awesome girls from Epic Reads, Margot and Aubry. In addition to running the Epic Reads blog, they also take time out of their week to host the livestream videos where they cover all sorts of topics such as book boyfriends, books that changed your view on the world, and our personal favorite...Theo James Appreciation Day.

This week on #TeaTime (Episode #71), the topic was HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR BOOKS. (You can watch the episode by clicking HERE!) Some interesting questions and ideas were discussed, so Amber and I decided to share our thoughts, too!

*What we're reading this week:

Jessica: Right now, I'm currently reading The Selection by Kiera Cass. Amber's recommended this book to me so many times and I've finally decided to give it a try!

Amber: I am rereading The 100 by Kass Morgan because I have an eARC of the sequel 21 Days!

*How to downsize your book collection if you need to:

Jessica: This is a hard one! I'm such a book geek that I can't bear to part with my books, even when I know that I have to. However, if I was moving or just needed to make more space on my bookshelf, I would definitely go with the process of elimination...narrow it down to any of your favorite books, books you're positive you'll read over and over again, and also any signed books or books that you paid a lot of money for!

Amber: I don't. I am a hoarder and I have books all over the place because I don't have the room. But I can't part with them, especially since all my books are ones I have loved or are signed to me. Umm ... If I had to they would go to other bloggers (Who I know will read them) or to organizations (Salvation Army, ect.)

*A book that you and your Book BFF (or in this case, co-blogger) disagreed on:

Jessica: A book that both Amber and I have both disagreed on? It's hard to think of one, because although we have different tastes in books, our opinions on them never really differ...hmmm. However, there is a character of a book that we have differing opinions on--Adrian from the Vampire Academy (and also the Bloodlines) series. She absolutely loves him, and throughout both series she promised me that I would come around and fall in love with him...and I never did. I don't hate him, I just don't see where all of the wow-factor is coming from. *shrugs* Constant controversy.

Amber: *Glares at Jessica* I still don't see how she doesn't love him. But she pretty much covered it. We never had a disagreement about a book we like/dislike.

*Book care tips:

Jessica: I'm definitely a severely Type A person, so I constantly make sure that my books are kept in pristine condition. I really only have three methods to my madness:
  • Don't let people borrow your books unless you're 1,000,000,000% confident that they will be returned in a timely manner and well taken care of. I've made this mistake several times, unfortunately, deciding to be nice and giving people the benefit of the doubt. That just doesn't work. Make sure you lend books to people you trust.
  • Take off the book jackets when you're reading the book. Even if the actual cover of the book may get a little damaged, take your hardcover book jackets off when reading the book, and then put them on when you're finished. It'll keep your book looking fresh and new, always. :-)
  • DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, CRACK THE SPINE OF YOUR BOOK. Instant ticket to Hell.
Amber: Why must Jessica always steal what I am going to say? *sighs* Some of the care tips really helped me. Those damn stickers....some of the covers of my books are all sticky because of that. The paper towel trick though! That would have been good to know before I threw out a copy of City of Bones by Cassandra Clare before I spilled my water all over it, then it warped.
