Top Ten Tuesday: Resolutions/Hopes for 2021

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl in which we create bookish lists about everything from our favorite characters to love triangles and everything in between!

This Week's Theme: Resolutions/Hopes for 2021

Since we already put together a 2021 blogging resolutions post here on the blog, I decided that it would be fun to share my own personal 2021 resolutions here for you all, both bookish and non-bookish related! So without further ado, let's get into it:

Jessica's 2021 Resolutions:

1. Crush another semester of graduate school. I'm loving getting my MFA so far, and I want to continue with the good grade streak, knock on wood!

2. Get back to reading 80+ books a year. This was my reading goal for last year, but COVID ended up destroying my ability to concentrate, so I'm hoping to get back on track with it this year!

3. Eat healthier. I have a bad habit of always letting myself get fast food at night, and while a little indulgence every now and then doesn't hurt, it makes me feel sluggish and icky afterward, so I'd like to curb that feeling a bit!

4. Get back into working out more regularly at the gym. I actually *love* the feeling after a good workout, and I love doing it at the gym, but because of COVID, I haven't gone since March. I've done some at-home workouts, but it doesn't feel as rewarding for me, so once everything is safe again, I'd love to get back into that! All three of us here at The Book Bratz actually go to the same gym, so it would be fun to take some classes together!

5. Attend more author events. Again, once COVID deems this possible again. I miss attending NYC author events with our friends!

6. Start using my local library more. I haven't been there in so long since I started blogging and getting so many ARCs and buying so many books for myself, so visiting my local library has really fallen to the wayside. I went in there the other day to drop off a job application and actually felt a wave of nostalgia because I missed being there every other day, so I'd love to go back!

7. Cut back on the social media/screen time. Not giving it up completely because it's something that I enjoy, but it wouldn't hurt to be on my screens for a little less time each day!

8. Spend more time outside this summer. I spent a lot of this summer inside in the air conditioning, and a lot less time outside in the sunshine and the pool than I originally wanted to. So I want to get more Vitamin D while reading outside!

9. Learn that it's okay to say no when I'm feeling overwhelmed. I have the habit of taking on a million projects at once because I don't ever have the heart to tell someone no, even when I'm massively overwhelmed. I'd like to work on setting that boundary a little bit more!

10. Go on some more local adventures. We live in an area with a lot of cool rites of passages and places to visit that I just haven't ever gotten the chance to explore, so I'd love to do more of that this year!

Bonus #11: Get a full-time job in publishing. I've been applying everywhere that I can, but haven't had much luck because of COVID. I'd love to finally find my dream job out there!

So those are a few of my 2021 resolutions, both bookish and non-bookish! What are yours? Comment down below and let me know! :-)

  1. Kick some butt in grad school! I'm hoping to have a great reading year too... although I've only read one book so far this year (I'm almost done with the second though). I love reading outside in the summer. We bought a table last year so I can sit on the patio. It's covered with snow right now, but I miss it.

  2. Saying "no" has been something I've been working on myself! Along with not allowing toxic people in my life anymore!

  6. Best of luck in graduate school! I actually start my first semester in 13 (!!!!) days. I'm so not ready. xD I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying it so far, though! Oof, #9 hits me hard, because that's one I'm working on but still struggle with! I need to set more limits in 2021, too, and realize that it's okay to say no. Good luck with your goals this year!

  7. I was surprised to discover that the majority of the books I read last year came from the library (not a HUGE majority but a majority all the same). I want to keep up that trend this year. Good luck to both of us on that one!

    Happy TTT!
