ARC Review: Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Solomon

Title: Today Tonight Tomorrow
Author: Rebecca Lynn Solomon
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Hardcover, 384 Pages
Publication Date: July 28th, 2020

Summary: Today, she hates him. It’s the last day of senior year. Rowan Roth and Neil McNair have been bitter rivals for all of high school, clashing on test scores, student council elections, and even gym class pull-up contests. While Rowan, who secretly wants to write romance novels, is anxious about the future, she’d love to beat her infuriating nemesis one last time. Tonight, she puts up with him. When Neil is named valedictorian, Rowan has only one chance at victory: Howl, a senior class game that takes them all over Seattle, a farewell tour of the city she loves. But after learning a group of seniors is out to get them, she and Neil reluctantly decide to team up until they’re the last players left—and then they’ll destroy each other. As Rowan spends more time with Neil, she realizes he’s much more than the awkward linguistics nerd she’s sparred with for the past four years. And, perhaps, this boy she claims to despise might actually be the boy of her dreams. Tomorrow…maybe she’s already fallen for him.

I received an ARC of TODAY TONIGHT TOMORROW from the publisher in exchange for an honest review, and let me tell you, I'm SUPER glad that I did! I read this entire book super quickly because I just loved it so much and couldn't put it down. I've been on such a roll with finding five-star reads lately, so being able to gush about it is so exciting. So without further ado, let's get into my review!

As the summary explains, it's Rowan and Neil's last day of high school, and they're sworn enemies both battling to be valedictorian. And they also have Howl, their senior event (which I explain a little later in this review), and each of them wants to be the person that wins the cash prize. There are only a few problems: For starters, Rowan finds Neil incredibly frustrating. They're rivals. But it would also be beneficial for them to team up because the rest of the senior class is out to eliminate them. And then there's the biggest problem of all...that maybe there might be feelings other than hatred for each other that are brewing underneath the surface.

Like I said, I absolutely adored this book. I've been reading so many 5-star books lately and I'm LOVING it! Something that was really cool about this book for me was that the entire story takes place over one night. It was SUCH a great story that had me laughing, gasping, and swooning at all the right moments. There were also several exciting plot twists that made me feel ALL the feels -- this is definitely the type of enemies-to-lovers story that you want to keep on your radar!

The concept of Howl itself was also pretty awesome to read. It made me really wish that my school had done something cool like that during my senior year! Basically, without spoiling anything, Howl is their school's last-day-of-senior-year tradition that is part scavenger hunt and part Assassin. Everyone has a list of fourteen locations to take photos of various places throughout Seattle, but in addition to that, everyone is assigned the name of one other student that they have to "take out" (AKA remove their band from their arm). So to win you have to find all of the clues AND keep yourself from getting out before you make it to the end! So having the entire story be overlaid by this cool senior event was really fascinating and fun to read about!

Character-wise, I also really loved Neil. I thought he was absolutely HILARIOUS, and all of his banter with Rowan kept me laughing out loud, and some of the things he said were just so shocking or interesting or hilarious that I gasped out loud. As the book goes on, you definitely learn a lot more about him and his background and the secrets he's carrying around that Rowan doesn't really know about. There's definitely more to Neil than what Rowan originally perceives, that's for sure!

But perhaps the thing I loved the most about this book is that Rowan wants to be a romance writer. The de-legitimization of romance novels and the stigma that surrounds them is something that's discussed a lot in the book. As someone who lot only loves reading romances but is also writing her own and constantly has to battle that internal nervousness about it that Rowan does, it was SUCH a relief to see the fact that Rowan was speaking up about the legitimate power of romance writers and romantic stories, and fighting back against people who don't see it as "real" literature. I spent the entire book cheering her on because I felt the exact same way that she did, so it was such a breath of fresh air to see!

Overall, I absolutely *loved* TODAY TONIGHT TOMORROW and will absolutely be recommending it to friends and family for a long, long time. If you're looking for a cute, exciting, hilarious enemies-to-lovers story, then you definitely should be adding this one to your TBR!
