Books We've Wanted to Recommend Lately

It's definitely been a chaotic few months over here at The Book Bratz -- we've been starting new jobs, going back to school, and just generally getting back into the swing of things. But now that the dust has settled a little bit, it's time for us to share a few books that we've read and loved lately and wanted to recommend to you:

THE EX TALK by Rachel Lynn Solomon

We know that everyone and their mother has been talking about this one, but after picking it up recently, it felt such such the perfect balance of a sweet, steamy, and hilarious rom-com that kept us entertained from start to finish. If you're into romance in any way, then you definitely should't miss out on this one!

#ENTRYLEVELBOSS by Alexa Shoen

This one is a little different than the books we usually review here, since it's a self-help book. However, we still encourage you to give it a chance! A copy was gifted to us by a friend that we went to school with, and we ended up reading the entire thing cover to cover, because the tips for the job search are not just the basic "work harder, here's how to tweak your resume" tips that anyone can find on the internet. Alexa Shoen is truly a career coach guru, and if you're like us -- read: recent college grads who are stressed about trying to enter the adult world during a pandemic -- then we absolutely recommend picking this one up. You won't regret it!

Trying not to jump the gun here, but this may possibly be one of our favorite debut books of 2021. Not only is Sarah Dass an incredible writer that kept us hooked from start to finish, but the way she weaves together vibrant island imagery and gripping secrets and drama kept us eagerly turning the pages and being so sad when we got to the end of the book, because we wanted to read more!

LONG WAY DOWN: THE GRAPHIC NOVEL by Jason Reynolds, Illustrated by Danica Novgorodoff

This is quite possibly the most gorgeous graphic novel that we've ever read -- the brilliant watercolor images splashed across each page were truly breathtaking. Not only that, but the fact that the entire story is told on an elevator ride just proves that Jason Reynolds is a master at creating intricate, fascinating stories in the smallest of moments. We read this one in a single sitting because it was so great, so we hope that you love it, too!

THE PROJECT by Courtney Summers

If you're looking for a thriller novel with an ending that you don't expect, then this is the novel for you! Courtney Summers does such an excellent job of ripping your heart out and stomping on it in the best way, and her latest cult thriller/mystery is no exception.
