Waiting on Wednesday: Something Wilder by Christina Lauren

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine where we highlight some of the upcoming books we can't wait to read!

Title: Something Wilder
Author: Christina Lauren
Publisher: Gallery Books
Publication Date: May 17th, 2022
Summary: Growing up the daughter of notorious treasure hunter and absentee father Duke Wilder left Lily without much patience for the profession…or much money in the bank. But Lily is nothing if not resourceful, and now uses Duke’s coveted hand-drawn maps to guide tourists on fake treasure hunts through the red rock canyons of Utah. It pays the bills but doesn’t leave enough to fulfill her dream of buying back the beloved ranch her father sold years ago, and definitely not enough to deal with the sight of the man she once loved walking back into her life with a motley crew of friends ready to hit the trails. Frankly, Lily would like to take him out into the wilderness—and leave him there. Leo Grady knew mirages were a thing in the desert, but they’d barely left civilization when the silhouette of his greatest regret comes into focus in the flickering light of the campfire. Ready to leave the past behind him, Leo wants nothing more than to reconnect with his first and only love. Unfortunately, Lily Wilder is all business, drawing a clear line in the sand: it’s never going to happen. But when the trip goes horribly and hilariously wrong, the group wonders if maybe the legend of the hidden treasure wasn’t a gimmick after all. There’s a chance to right the wrongs—of Duke’s past and their own—but only if Leo and Lily can confront their history and work together. Alone under the stars in the isolated and dangerous mazes of the Canyonlands, Leo and Lily must decide whether they’ll risk their lives and hearts on the adventure of a lifetime.

As someone who is a huge fan of all of Christina Lauren's books, as soon as I found out about this one, I had to add it to my TBR. I just couldn't wait! Even though the cover isn't revealed yet, I knew I wanted to talk about this book, because I'm eagerly counting down the days until May, and I just can't wait any longer. Christina Lauren books are some of my favorite romances to read, and I know that this one is going to be such a treat!

Waiting on Wednesday: By the Book by Jasmine Guillory

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine where we highlight some of the upcoming books we can't wait to read!

Title: By the Book
Author: Jasmine Guillory
Publisher: Hyperion Avenue
Publication Date: May 3rd, 2022
Summary: Isabelle is completely lost. When she first began her career in publishing right out of college, she did not expect to be twenty-five, living at home, still an editorial assistant, and the only Black employee at her publishing house. Overworked and underpaid, constantly torn between speaking up or stifling herself, Izzy thinks there must be more to this publishing life. So when she overhears her boss complaining about a beastly high-profile author who has failed to deliver his long-awaited manuscript, Isabelle sees an opportunity to finally get the promotion she deserves. All she has to do is go to the author’s Santa Barbara mansion and give him a quick pep talk or three. How hard could it be? But Izzy quickly finds out she is in over her head. Beau Towers is not some celebrity lightweight writing a tell-all memoir. He is jaded and withdrawn and—it turns out—just as lost as Izzy. But despite his standoffishness, Izzy needs Beau to deliver, and with her encouragement, his story begins to spill onto the page. They soon discover they have more in common than either of them expected, and as their deadline nears, Izzy and Beau begin to realize there may be something there that wasn't there before.

As someone who is a huge fan of Jasmine Guillory's books, I was really excited when I found out about this one! Not only that, but finding out that it's set in a publishing house just made it even more exciting for me, because I love books that are set in the field that I'm in. Jasmine Guillory's love stories never disappoint, and I'm eager to get my hands on a copy of this one, hopefully soon!

Waiting on Wednesday: I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine where we highlight some of the upcoming books we can't wait to read!

Title: I Kissed Shara Wheeler
Author: Casey McQuiston
Hardcover, 320 Pages
Publisher: St. Martin's Press
Publication Date: May 3rd, 2022

Summary: Chloe Green is so close to winning. After her moms moved her from SoCal to Alabama for high school, she’s spent the past four years dodging gossipy classmates and a puritanical administration at Willowgrove Christian Academy. The thing that’s kept her going: winning valedictorian. Her only rival: prom queen Shara Wheeler, the principal’s perfect progeny. But a month before graduation, Shara kisses Chloe and vanishes. On a furious hunt for answers, Chloe discovers she’s not the only one Shara kissed. There’s also Smith, Shara’s longtime quarterback sweetheart, and Rory, Shara’s bad boy neighbor with a crush. The three have nothing in common except Shara and the annoyingly cryptic notes she left behind, but together they must untangle Shara’s trail of clues and find her. It’ll be worth it, if Chloe can drag Shara back before graduation to beat her fair-and-square. Thrown into an unlikely alliance, chasing a ghost through parties, break-ins, puzzles, and secrets revealed on monogrammed stationery, Chloe starts to suspect there might be more to this small town than she thought. And maybe—probably not, but maybe—more to Shara, too.

I'm a huge fan of anything that Casey McQuiston writes, so when I found out that she had another book, I immediately added it to my TBR. Anything by Casey is basically guaranteed to hook me from start to finish, with plenty of swooning and laughing out loud in between. I'm already counting down the days until May 2022 so I can dive into this one!

Summary: As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn't believe in lasting romantic relationships--but her best friend does, and that's what got her into this situation. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees. That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor--and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford's reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive's career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and even more unyielding...six-pack abs. Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.

I know that this book came out a few weeks ago, but I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet with all of the ARCs I had to get through and I had finals for my MFA program, but now that I finally have a little bit of a break, I'm really looking forward to diving into this one! I even had to do a writeup on the marketing of this book for one of my MFA papers, so I got to learn more about it and I'm extra excited to read it now.

Has anyone here read THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS yet? What did you think of it?

Waiting on Wednesday: Book Lovers by Emily Henry

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine where we highlight some of the upcoming books we can't wait to read!

Title:
Book Lovers

Author: Emily Henry
Publisher: Berkley
Paperback, 384 Pages
Publication Date: May 3rd, 2022
Summary: Nora Stephens’ life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby. Which is why she agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sisters’ trip away—with visions of a small town transformation for Nora, who she’s convinced needs to become the heroine in her own story. But instead of picnics in meadows, or run-ins with a handsome country doctor or bulging-forearmed bartender, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a bookish brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute. If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as they are thrown together again and again—in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allow—what they discover might just unravel the carefully crafted stories they’ve written about themselves.

Anyone that knows me knows that I am a huge fan of Emily Henry's books. Beach Read was one of my all-time favorites a few years ago, and I recently devoured People We Meet on Vacation and loved that, too! So when I found out that she had a new book coming out, I was already intrigued and adding it to my TBR...and then when I found out that it's about a writer again (one of my favorite types of books!!), I became over-the-moon excited. May 2022 can't get here fast enough -- I'm so so so so excited about this one!

As If On Cue

Author: Marisa Kanter
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
Hardcover, 400 Pages
Publication Date: September 21st, 2021
Summary: Lifelong rivals Natalie and Reid have never been on the same team. So when their school’s art budget faces cutbacks, of course Natalie finds herself up against her nemesis once more. She’s fighting to direct the school’s first ever student-written play, but for her small production to get funding, the school’s award-winning band will have to lose it. Reid’s band. And he’s got no intention of letting the show go on. But when their rivalry turns into an all-out prank war that goes too far, Natalie and Reid have to face the music, resulting in the worst compromise: writing and directing a musical. Together. At least if they deliver a sold-out show, the school board will reconsider next year’s band and theater budget. Everyone could win. Except Natalie and Reid. Because after spending their entire lives in competition, they have absolutely no idea how to be co-anything. And they certainly don’t know how to deal with the feelings that are inexplicably, weirdly, definitely developing between them…

Ever since we read Marisa's debut novel, WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU, we became such huge fans -- I mean seriously, a book about book bloggers?! -- that we couldn't wait to read her next book. Well, needless to say, once we heard about AS IF ON CUE we immediately requested an ARC. I am so excited to dive into this rivals-to-lovers romance from an author that I love! And trust me -- Marisa is such a great author that you definitely need to add this on your TBR.

Jasmine quickly loses herself in a cyclical routine of donuts, Netflix, and sleep. She wants to break free from her daily grind, but when a hike in rent threatens the survival of their shop, her parents rely on her more than ever. Help comes in the form of an old college crush, Alex Lai. Not only is he successful and easy on the eyes, to her parents’ delight, he’s also Chinese. He’s everything she should wish for, until a disastrous dinner reveals Alex isn’t as perfect as she thinks. Worse, he doesn’t think she’s perfect either. With both sets of parents against their relationship, a family legacy about to shut down, and the reappearance of an old high school flame, Jasmine must scheme to find a solution that satisfies her family’s expectations and can get her out of the donut trap once and for all.

I heard of this book when Book Twitter was raving about it nonstop, so of course, I had to add it to my TBR and see for myself! I'm a huge fan of sweet, contemporary rom-coms, and as expected, the cover is already making me crave donuts. I can't wait for November 2nd to roll around (which is also mine and my boyfriend's anniversary!), so maybe I can convince him to get me this sweet read to celebrate!

Waiting on Wednesday: Tell Me When You Feel Something by Vicki Grant

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine where we highlight some of the upcoming books we can't wait to read!

Title: Tell Me When You Feel Something
Author: Vicki Grant
Publisher:  Penguin Teen
Hardcover, 336 Pages
Publication Date: June 15th, 2021
Summary: It seemed like a cool part-time program -- being a simulated patient for med school students to practice on. But now vivacious, charismatic Viv lies in a very real coma. Cellphone footage just leads to more questions. What really happened? Other kids suspect it was not an intentional overdose -- but each has a reason why they can't tell the truth. Through intertwining and conflicting narratives, a twisted story unfolds of trust betrayed as we sift through the seemingly innocent events leading up to the tragic night. Perhaps simulated patients aren't the only people pretending to be something they're not . . .

I know this book is already out, but I'm choosing to include it in my Waiting on Wednesday this week because I found out about the book recently and just can't get this idea out of my head. I first heard about this book when it was mentioned during a Hey YA podcast episode, and as soon as they started talking about it, I knew that I wanted to add it to my TBR. I'm looking forward to treating myself to a new book purchase soon, because this definitely sounds like the type of thrilling read that I'd be interested in!

Waiting on Wednesday: When You Get the Chance by Emma Lord

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine where we highlight some of the upcoming books we can't wait to read!

Title: When You Get the Chance
Author: Emma Lord
Publisher: Wednesday Books
Hardcover, 320 Pages
Publication Date: January 4th, 2022
Summary: othing will get in the way of Millie Price’s dream to become a Broadway star. Not her lovable but super-introverted dad, who after raising Millie alone, doesn’t want to watch her leave home to pursue her dream. Not her pesky and ongoing drama club rival, Oliver, who is the very definition of Simmering Romantic Tension. And not the “Millie Moods,” the feelings of intense emotion that threaten to overwhelm, always at maddeningly inconvenient times. Millie needs an ally. And when a left-open browser brings Millie to her dad’s embarrassingly moody LiveJournal from 2003, Millie knows just what to do. She’s going to find her mom. There’s Steph, a still-aspiring stage actress and receptionist at a talent agency. There’s Farrah, ethereal dance teacher who clearly doesn’t have the two left feet Millie has. And Beth, the chipper and sweet stage enthusiast with an equally exuberant fifteen-year-old daughter (A possible sister?! This is getting out of hand). But how can you find a new part of your life and expect it to fit into your old one, without leaving any marks? And why is it that when you go looking for the past, it somehow keeps bringing you back to what you’ve had all along?

I read Emma Lord's TWEET CUTE and loved it so dang much (you can read my review here), so of course I added YOU HAVE A MATCH to my TBR (and it's on my summer reading list for this year!). So, when I found out that she had a third book coming out, I was over the moon. Emma Lord's writing voice is equal parts snappy, hilarious, and intriguing in a way that I love so much. I don't think I've ever read a book as quickly as I read TWEET CUTE -- and the premise itself was adorable! WHEN YOU GET THE CHANCE will be no different, I'm sure. I can't wait to have it in my hands next year to start reading!

Waiting on Wednesday: This Might Get Awkward by Kara McDowell

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine where we highlight some of the upcoming books we can't wait to read!

Title: This Might Get Awkward
Author: Kara McDowell
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Hardcover, 336 Pages
Publication Date: March 1st, 2022
Summary: Seventeen-year-old Gemma’s favorite kind of beach is an empty one. Social interactions are too much for her to handle. She always says the wrong thing—if she manages to say anything at all. She can’t even bring herself to speak to her longtime crush, Beau Booker, without losing sleep over her own awkwardness. During a solo outing to her favorite beach, Gemma realizes—to her horror—that the popular kids from school have shown up to throw a party. Before she can sneak away (and possibly puke behind her car) Gemma is pulled into the action and ends up talking to Beau, who asks her to pretend that they’re “close.” Gemma is too flustered and flattered to refuse, and mostly, she’s wondering why Beau is talking to her at all . . . right up until the moment when he falls off the boat, hits his head, and ends up in a coma. After rescuing Beau from the water, Gemma is mistaken for Beau’s girlfriend by his friends and family, including his mysterious older brother, Griff, who has returned to town after a year away. Gemma tries to correct the record, but her social anxiety (and a nosy reporter) gets in the way at every turn. Before she knows it, she’s in too deep to backtrack. And when Beau’s warm, boisterous family pulls Gemma into their orbit, she realizes how much she wants to keep them in her life. For the first time, Gemma has everything she’s ever wanted: friends, big family dinners, and Griff—a boy who she can be herself around. But how can she embrace her new dream life when everything is built on a lie?

I've been a huge fan of Kara McDowell ever since we covered her as a debut author a few years back, so when I found out about this book -- and saw this lovely cover! -- I was so excited. This sounds like the perfect kind of YA contemporary story that I've been itching to read, and I can't wait to have it in my hands next year!

Waiting on Wednesday: I Hate You More by Lucy Gilmore

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine where we highlight some of the upcoming books we can't wait to read!

Title: I Hate You More
Author: Lucy Gilmore
Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca
Paperback, 272 Pages
Publication Date: November 2nd, 2021
Summary: Ruby Taylor gave up pageant life the day she turned eighteen and figured she'd never look back. She has no intention of taking the stage ever again, but when an elderly friend begs her to help show her Golden Retriever, Wheezy, in the local dog show, Ruby reluctantly straps on her heels and gets to work. Too bad Wheezy is the laziest, most adorably good-for-nothing dog she's ever met. If there's one thing veterinarian Spencer Wilson knows in this world, it's dogs. Human beings, however, are a different story. Especially gorgeous women clearly in way over their heads. As judge for the local dog show, Spencer advises Ruby to quit while she still can, but her old fervor for winning has returned—and she wants to show the stern, broody-eyed judge that she's more than just a pretty face.

This book was pitched for fans of THE HATING GAME, which everyone knows is one of my favorite books of all time, so clearly it was no question when it came to adding this book to my TBR. I'm also a huge sucker for romance novels with illustrated covers lately, so I'm not ashamed to admit that that roped me in, too. November can't get here soon enough -- I can't wait to read it! And the fact that it comes out on my anniversary is just a fantastic bonus...so maybe I can convince my boyfriend to get me this as a gift! ;-)
