This Week's Theme: Outrageous Things I’ve Done for the Love of Books!
For this week's Top Ten Tuesday, I'm talking about ten outrageous things I've done for the love of books! Some of these aren't as dramatic as I make them seem, and some of them are definitely pretty outrageous. So without further ado, let's get into it:
1. I woke up at 3:30AM for five days in a row for BookExpo and BookCon 2018. In theory, we definitely should've gotten a hotel room, but we wanted to save money and thought commuting would be cheaper. It definitely was, but it was a lot more taxing on our bodies -- we got home at 9pm every night, had to shower and eat and unhaul our suitcases, and then we had to wake up at 3:30AM to do it all over again!
2. I skipped a class for a Tahereh Mafi book reveal. Definitely not "outrageous" to some people, but keep in mind that I never skip class.
3. I stayed up until 4am to finish a really good book. Even though I had class the next day and definitely shouldn't have done that!
4. I ran away when I bumped into Adam Silvera on the show floor of BookExpo because I was starstruck and shy. It's super embarrassing since he's literally my literary hero, but it's true!
5. I cosplayed as Lena Duchannes with Emily for the Beautiful Creatures movie premiere! Listen, we both really loved the books, okay?
6. I wrote Warner's name in a heart on my arm and went to school like that during the peak of the Shatter Me series. Ah, the pre-teen fangirl phase. I miss it.
7. I spent $100 the first time I went to Strand Bookstore! Keep in mind that this was when I was in high school without a job and $100 was basically my entire life savings.
8. I completely jumped into meeting tons of strangers! I finally braved my social anxiety and met up with so many awesome internet friends and bloggers at BookExpo 2018, which is something I'm not used to doing so that was really exciting.
9. I wrote a scathing op-ed defending YA Lit. I sort of Tweeted about this last month, but a girl at my school posted an article about why people over the age of 18 that read YA aren't mature, so I wrote a really sassy op-ed in response that they actually requested I tone down before they published it. I was just super adamant about defending my favorite genre! <3
10. I stuck our blog's business cards in random books at our public library, which we were specifically told not to do! And, of course, I got caught. They weren't super mad since I knew all the librarians there -- they just thought it was really funny, and then they let me keep doing it once I pleaded my case about wanting more YA readers to know YA book blogs exist, LOL!
So those are ten of the most outrageous things I've done for the love of books! Some of them are definitely not that interesting, but I'm not usually a risk-taker so I had to think outside the box, LOL! What are some of your outrageous stories? Comment down below and let me know! :-)
