Summary: After two drama-filled weeks in Manhattan, Pippa Greene is back. Despite a romantic reunion with boyfriend Dylan, she can’t seem to shake the emotional aftermath of New York. As she navigates parental drama at home and her charged dynamic with Ben Baxter at school, Pippa finds that Dylan is more wrapped up in his post-high-school life of bands, shows, and new friends than in their relationship. Will it survive?
I received an ARC copy of Leading Lines from ECW Press in exchange for an honest review and a spot on this blog tour! Amber and I have participated in the other Pippa Greene blog tours before, so reading this book was another great addition to a series we already really liked. I was a bit weary at first because I hadn't read the previous book, Depth of Field, in almost a year, so I was worried that I wouldn't remember certain plot points and it would hinder my reading. For the first few chapters I was a bit confused and felt left out of the loop, but as the book progressed I found myself remembering important parts of the previous two books and soon it was like I never had a huge time gap in reading the series at all. I definitely would've done a re-read of the first two books if I had time, though. It definitely would have been beneficial.

Anyway, back to the story at hand. This was another enjoyable book in the Pippa Greene series, which is a series that I think anybody looking for a light, easy read should pick up. Some of the topics in the book that are discussed are a bit heavy (such as cancer, death, broken relationships, etc.), but the overall tone of the novel is light and enjoyable.

In this installment of the series, Pippa's seemingly perfect relationship with Dylan is crumbling. He just spent two weeks away from her on tour following a band, and with that band and tour comes groupies. Seemingly mysterious, musically-inclined, perfect girls that click with Dylan more than Pippa ever could. And even when he's home, things just aren't the same. The harder Pippa tries to fix their relationship, the more distant Dylan becomes. And whenever she brings up a certain untouchable topic in his best interest, he shuts down all of his connection with her.

So, things aren't going very well with Dylan and Pippa. Even though reading about her own struggles was a bit difficult, especially knowing how much she loved him, it was good to see her gain her inner strength and stand up for herself when things got rough. Definitely a lot of girl power there.

The end of this book definitely shocked me. I won't ruin it for anybody reading this review (because I strongly encourage everyone to pick up this series and give it a try for themselves!), but I'll just say that I was expecting one thing to happen for the entire duration of the book, and I was shocked when the plot led elsewhere.

There are some spoilers in this paragraph. If you haven't read this book yet, skip to the next paragraph! I was expecting Pippa and Ben to end up together for the entire duration of the book, especially after how horribly Dylan had been treating Pippa. When they kissed in the supply closet I thought to myself, Here it goes, the plot I saw coming, and I was kind of disappointed. But once Pippa realized that she didn't feel anything in the kiss and then went on to tell Ben the same thing at the dance, I was pleasantly surprised. Not so much because Pippa and Ben didn't work out (because no matter how many times Pippa may forgive him, I don't think that he's worthy of it), but because readers start to feel the plot becoming too predictable and then Chantel Guertin throws in a plot twist that nobody really seems coming.

So yeah. That was nice. The entire book was really nice, and I am so glad that I get to be a part of this tour. :) If you're reading this right now, go add this book (and the previous two books in the series) to your TBR!

All in all, Leading Lines was another enjoyable installment to the Pippa Greene series and I was really glad that ECW Press reached out to me and chose to involve me in the blog tour. Rumor has it that a fourth book in the Pippa Greene series will be in the works, so I definitely can't wait to read that when the time comes around!
