July Book Recommendations!

JULY RECOMMENDATIONS!

It's a new month, which means that it's time for some new book recommendations! Summer is here, so I'm bringing you three awesome reads that you need to pick up ASAP and bring with you to the beach. Nothing's better than some sun, sand, and cold ocean breeze...except these books being added into the mix, of course.

So without further ado, here are my recommendations for July!

Title: The Lake Effect
Authors: Erin McCahan
Publisher: Dial Books
Why I'm Recommending It: This book, based on the cover alone, should indicate why I'm recommending it for July. It actually comes out on July 11th, so you should be able to have it in your hands soon. My review hasn't gone up for this book yet (it will in about a week for a blog tour!), but when it does, I definitely recommend checking it out. I'm so glad I got the chance to read and review this book, because it was the greatest read to kick off the summer season -- because nothing says summer like romance, drama, and lake houses!

Title: When Dimple Met Rishi
Author: Sandhya Menon
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Why I'm Recommending It: This book is pretty much being talked about in every blogger circle around, and definitely for good reason. When Dimple Met Rishi is filled with equal parts laughter, drama, girl power, and yes...maybe even a little bit of romance. I was laughing and rooting for Dimple from the minute I picked up this book until the very end -- and if you want to know what else I had to say about it, you can read my review here.

Title: Everyone's a Aliebn When Ur a Aliebn Too
Author: Jomny Sun
Publisher: Harper Perennial
Why I'm Recommending It: If you haven't had this book on your TBR already, it 100% needs to be put there ASAP. This book made me laugh, cry, contemplate reality, and strive to be a better person. Told entirely in pictures with a few words of dialogue here and there, you will find yourself rooting for adorable little eggs and birds, laughing at subtle Giving Tree references, and finishing the book in record timing. I have recommended this book to anyone and everyone I know, because it made me smile so much and it was a breath of fresh air that I didn't even know I needed. I even met Jomny earlier this week at a signing, and of course, he was just as spectacular in person. This is the kind of book that you need, guys. Trust me. If you want to read my review, you can click here.

I hope you guys enjoyed my seventh recommendations post -- I'm really enjoying doing these, and I can't believe that I've done over half a year's worth already! Comment your thoughts down below if you read any of these three books, or if you plan on reading them. If you have any books that you think should read based on these recommendations, feel free to let me know some of those too! :-)

SEPTEMBER RECOMMENDATIONS!

It's a new month and summer is winding down, but it's still time for some new book recommendations! Today, I'm bringing you three awesome reads that you need to pick up ASAP and bring with you to your last few beach days before school and work set in again. I'm excited to get back to school but also a little bummed because that means my reading time is going to slow down again -- so if you're in the same boat as me, take advantage of these three reads while you still have the chance!

Here are my recommendations for August!

Title: I Hate Everyone But You
Authors: Gaby Dunn & Allison Raskin
Publisher: Wednesday Books
Why I'm Recommending It: I received an ARC of this book from St. Martin's in exchange for an honest review, and I'm really glad that I got the chance to review it. It's a unique book that is told entire through email and text exchanges. It's a story about two teenage girls who are best friends but are going across the country to different colleges, so they're fighting to make their friendship work even when it came to new clubs, schools, people, and lifestyles. It made me laugh and cry at all the right parts and I really enjoyed it. If you want to read my review, you can click here!

Title: The Upside of Unrequited
Author: Becky Albertalli
Publisher: Balzer + Bray
Why I'm Recommending It: I really enjoyed Becky Albertalli's first book, Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, so I was super eager to get my hands on this book as well. It tells the story of a teen named Molly who is struggling with her twin sister getting a life that's separate from hers, while also juggling feelings and possible relationships of her own. This book was filled with a lot of adorable, super-sweet moments, and plenty of comedic scenes as well. You can read my review here.

Title: The One That Got Away
Author: Melissa Pimentel
Publisher: Thomas Dunne Books
Why I'm Recommending It: I received an advanced copy of this book from St. Martin's, and it was a super adorable romance that had me hooked from start to finish. Ruby broke up with the love of her life years ago, and in the years since they've been apart, his career skyrocketed as he became a famous tech mogul, while she's still struggling to make a name for herself. Their paths end up crossing again at a wedding over in England, and what ensues is interesting, to say the least! If you want to read my review, you can click here.

I hope you guys enjoyed my ninth recommendations post! The year may be coming to a close, but you can never have enough book recommendations! If you have any books that you think should read based on these recommendations, feel free to let me know some of those too! And happy almost fall, everybody! :-)

DECEMBER RECOMMENDATIONS!

The last month of 2017 is here -- which means that there's still a little bit of time left to pick up some good books and catch up to our 2017 Reading Challenges on Goodreads! All year long, I've been using the first day of every month to quickly showcase three reads I've been loving and would totally recommend, and this month is going to be no different. So make some hot cocoa and settle in by the fire for these great reads, because you definitely don't want to miss them.

Without further ado, here are my recommendations for December!

30040068

Title: A Short History of the Girl Next Door
Authors: Jared Reck
Publisher: Knopf Books
Why I'm Recommending It: I received an advanced copy of this book at BookCon this past year, and I only got around to reading it recently. I was expecting a cute little love story, but in the mere 260 pages of this book it managed to make me laugh, cry, and everything in between. This book packs a punch and takes you on an emotional roller coaster like no other, and since it's such a small book, you can definitely fly through it in a day -- trust me, you won't want to stop turning the pages once you pick it up, because this book is really, truly amazing. If you want to read my review, you can click here!

32048554

Title: Windfall
Author: Jennifer E. Smith
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Why I'm Recommending It: I could not even begin to imagine what would happen if I suddenly found out that I won the lottery, but that is exactly what this book does. When Teddy wins big (as one of the youngest winners ever), the strain on his relationships with his friends, family, and even his other peers start to go haywire, and you get a glimpse into the craziness of what may happen if you suddenly won it all. This book was super sweet and also super heart-wrenching at times, and Jennifer E. Smith takes you on a trip yet again with another incredible book. You can read my review here!

28421168

Title: Renegades
Author: Marissa Meyer
Publisher: Fiewel & Friends
Why I'm Recommending It: I am not really one that's a huge fan of science fiction and fantasy books, so at first I wasn't sure if I was going to like this one -- especially since it's such a big book! But it turns out that all of my worries were unfounded, because as soon as I picked up this book, I was glued to the intricate world of heroes and villains and powers and I just couldn't put it down. It was really such a spectacular read! If you want to read my review, you can click here.

I can't believe that this is my last book recommendations post for 2017! It's been such an incredible year with so many great reads, and I hope that you all found some new books worth picking up through these posts. Enjoy the holidays and stay warm!

OCTOBER RECOMMENDATIONS!

It's officially the spookiest month of the year!! Let's get excited! To celebrate the beginning of October, I'm here with another installment of my monthly book recommendations. While none of these books are new releases, they're still super interesting and chilling reads that are perfect for Halloween month!

So without further ado, here are my recommendations for October!

28818314

Title: Roseblood
Authors: A.G. Howard
Publisher: Harry N. Abrams
Why I'm Recommending It: I am a huge Phantom of the Opera fan, which is exactly what this book is centered around. Imagine going to a school that believed he was still around and haunting everyone -- this book is all the right amounts of chilling, creepy, and even (at times) romantic. And if you're a huge Phantom fan like I am, then this is the perfect season to enjoy a book like this. If you want to read my review, you can click here!

24465518

Title: Hotel Ruby
Author: Suzanne Young
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Why I'm Recommending It: It's been several years, but this is still one of my favorite books of all time. It tells the story of a girl who is traveling with her family and suddenly winds up in a hotel that seems really luxurious and awesome at first...but then things start to go wrong, and things aren't adding up, and no matter how hard she tries, she cannot leave. And then she finds out that the hotel stands for something scarier than she could've ever imagined...gosh, I'm getting chills just thinking about this book again. You can read my review here.

18599667

Title: (Don't You) Forget About Me
Author: Kate Karyus Quinn
Publisher: HarperTeen
Why I'm Recommending It: I reviewed this book a really long time ago, but it's still stuck with me and I tend to recommend this book for all different scenarios because it's just that good. It's the story of a creepy town that has a time of year where all the teens are driven to do dangerous, destructive things -- sometimes even resulting in their deaths. But one girl sees through it all and knows that she has to stop the murderous cycle before it can continue yet again...but when she discovers is worse than she could've ever imagined. If you want to read my review, you can click here.

I hope everyone enjoyed my October book recommendations! Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? Do you have any spooky recommendations of your own? Comment them down below!

AUGUST RECOMMENDATIONS!

Title: Little & Lion
Authors: Brandy Colbert
Publisher: Little, Brown
Why I'm Recommending It: I received an ARC of this book at BookCon and I'm so glad I did, because not only did I love this book, but I loved how it covered so many different and equally important topics. This book talks about things from race to relationships to sexuality to mental illness, just to name a few. Brandy Colbert did an excellent job working all of these aspects into the story seamlessly, and it was tied together in a plot that I really enjoyed reading. If you want to read my review, you can click here.

Title: The Princess Saves Herself In This One
Author: Amanda Lovelace
Publisher: Andrews McMeel Publishing
Why I'm Recommending It: I was never a huge fan of poetry before I picked up this book, but it's safe to say that I've definitely changed my mind. This book was a little over 150 pages but it was such a quick and easy read, but each poem -- even if only a few words or lines in length -- managed to punctuate an important theme or point that left you reeling. I had to go back and reread several pages in this book because I read it and was like "Whoa, what?". This book was a piece of art that was beautifully done and it brought me into the world of poetry, and I can't wait to read Lovelace's next one. You can read my review here.

Title: Once and For All
Author: Sarah Dessen
Publisher: Viking Books
Why I'm Recommending It: I've been a Sarah Dessen fan for as long as I could remember, so I was naturally so eager to get my hands on this book at BookCon. And when I did, I was so glad for that opportunity, because Dessen managed to deliver another complicated romance that left my heart in shambles, even if for all the right reasons. There were even several plot twists that I hadn't seen coming and I ended up gasping out loud. If you want to read my review, you can click here.

November Book Recommendations!

NOVEMBER RECOMMENDATIONS!

November is here, which means that it's both NaNoWriMo AND Thanksgiving season! Nothing makes me happier than curling up with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate after a nice Thanksgiving dinner, and hopefully you can relate. But if you don't have a good book to read, the experience just won't be the same.

So without further ado, here are my recommendations for November!

15837671

Title: Turtles All The Way Down
Authors: John Green
Publisher: Dutton Books
Why I'm Recommending It: I am a huge John Green fan, so I was practically sprinting to the post office to pick up my copy the day that this book came out. Green outdoes himself yet again with a spectacular book about love, loss, mental illness, mystery, and everything in between. It was a long enough book to give you a gripping story, but short enough that it can definitely be finished in a day or two with serious dedication. If you want to read my review, you can click here!

29385546

Title: Warcross
Author: Marie Lu
Publisher: Putnam
Why I'm Recommending It: I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book (being that I'm not a huge sci-fi fan), but I tore through it in a little less than two days because it was so incredible and gripping. This is my first Marie Lu book and I would 100% recommend it to anyone willing to give it a try, because you never know what you may end up liking. This story has everything, especially a lot of futuristic, gripping action and even some steamy romance thrown in for good measure. You can read my review here.

24445517

Title: Maybe Someday
Author: Colleen Hoover
Publisher: Atria
Why I'm Recommending It: I am such a huge fan of Colleen Hoover (Emily is, too!), and this is one of her books that we hadn't gotten around to reading yet. We both started it around the same time and ended up being positively thrown for a loop and totally shocked. This book is equal parts sexy, hilarious, and surprising. There are TONS of cliffhangers that I promise you won't see coming, and the book will have you hooked from the very beginning to the very end. If you want to read my review, you can click here.

I hope everyone enjoyed my November book recommendations! Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? Hopefully you can grab one or two to enjoy after a yummy Thanksgiving dinner!

July 2020 Blogging Recap!

It's time for our July 2020 blogging recap! So without further ado, let's take a peek into all of the things we accomplished on the blog this month:

In July...

....We reviewed tons of great books!
Check out our review archive to see what reviews we added this month!

....We interviewed more 2020 debut authors!
This month, we interviewed Kylie Schachte, Jessica Goodman, Syed M. Masood, and Shveta Thakrar!

....We shared some of our favorite beachside book recommendations!
You can check out our recommendations by clicking here!

It was kind of a slow month this July, since we spent most of our time just reading and writing reviews while we juggled some college stuff and life changes (which we will explain in future College Diaries posts!), so the main focuses were just sorting out those things and also trying to read as much as possible so we could put out more reviews for you guys. Things are going to start getting busy again with college (Amber), nursing school (Emily), and graduate school (Jessica), so we're trying to buckle down and read lots and lots now so we'll have plenty of content to share with you guys when things get busy in our personal lives!

What was your favorite thing that we did on the blog this month? What are your recommendations for future posts/reviews? Comment down below and let us know! :-)

Now it's time for August, which means heat waves and reading inside by the AC...and hopefully a cold glass of iced tea! What about all of you?

2017 Blogging Recap!

Hey, everyone! As 2017 comes to a close, it's time to recap on the incredible year we've had, all of the books we've read, the places we've been, and the friends we've made. We've done recaps for 2016, 2015, and 2014, and looking back on these are always super great. So without further ado, here are some of our highlights on The Book Bratz for 2017!

JANUARY 2017

1. We Started The College Diaries. Blogging in college is definitely a challenge, and we collaborated with tons of college bloggers to get their opinions on how they managed to keep up with blogging in college -- and we kept up with it ourselves!

2. We started our monthly book recommendations. In which the first day of every month was spent recommending three of our most recent reads that we thought you guys would love!

FEBRUARY 2017

3. We helped bring a bookstore to the Bronx. We shared the fundraiser being put together by the Lit Bar, and it turns out that they reached their goal and even rented out the space for an upcoming bookstore -- and the only bookstore -- in the Bronx!

JUNE 2017

4. We went to BookCon. Emily also did her own recap here! It was another great convention filled with great books and great friends.

5. We went to the Jomny Sun book signing. It was one of the most wholesome and adorable book events we've ever been to!

JULY 2017

6. We said goodbye to Sarah Dessen. And then jumped for joy when she replied and confirmed that she was going to be writing more books and that Once and For All being her last book was just a rumor.

AUGUST 2017

7. We started another year of college. And so far, it's been great!

OCTOBER 2017

8. We celebrated the release of Turtles All the Way Down. And we cried through every page.

9. We teamed up with publishers, agents, and authors to give you professional advice on the publishing industry. And it still remains one of our most popular posts of all time -- we are so glad that we were able to give you all such incredible advice with the help of so many people!

NOVEMBER 2017

10. We participated in NaNoWriMo 2017. And we're proud to announce that we crossed the 50K finish line again! :-)

DECEMBER 2017

11. We wrapped up this incredible year with all of you! And we're so excited to see what 2018 will be bringing for us here on the blog!

And now, we assessed our goals for The Book Bratz that we put together right after New Year's -- let's see how many of them we stuck to!

1. Keeping up with our review archive. Done!

2. Tweet the links to our posts each day. Also done! TweetDeck is a godsend.

3. Be more active on Twitter in general. Even though school was crazy, we made an effort to spend at least a little bit of time on our blog Twitter every day, and it was a lot easier than we thought!

4. Read and review more books. College kicked our butt last year, but as 2017 being our first full start to finish calendar year in college, we ended up reading a lot more than we thought, even if it still wasn't as much as we read in high school. So we'd consider this one done!

5. Comment on more blogs. We are still terrible at this because we always forget or don't have time. :-( So it looks like this one will also be a 2018 resolution!

6. Read more backlisted books. Done! We've read almost exclusively backlisted books this year for some odd reason.

7. Request less ARCs. We've actually (unfortunately) been really good at this, since college sucks up all of our reading time.

8. Make blog improvements. We'd like to think that even though the layout of the blog hasn't changed, the quality of our content has. :-)

9. Put up more College Diary posts. Done!

10. Go to more book events! This year we went to BookCon and also a few author events at The Strand, so we consider this one done!

Overall, it seems like we did a good job with keeping our 2017 resolutions. Be on the lookout for our 2018 resolutions post, which will be coming soon!

2017 was an incredible year with so many great books, events, and blog-related fun.  We are so grateful for all of the opportunities we've had, and we're really looking forward to another great year in 2018!

2019 Blogging Recap!

Happy New Year's Eve! It's officially the last day of 2019, which means it's time to recap all of the awesome things we did this year, from new features, to bookish events, to friends we made, to milestones we've hit and more! So without further ado, let's get into our highlights from 2019!

JANUARY 2019

  • We started interviewing 2019 debut authors! Every month, we featured some interviews and giveaways from SO many amazing #Class2k19Books members. We read so many great new stories AND made so many amazing new friends!
  • We got to team up with our awesome friend Sadie @ S.B. Book Blog to do a tag-team Q&A...so check out all of her answers to our questions, as well as OUR answers to hers, in this post!
  • We added a new Blogging 101 post to our series talking about different types of post ideas that you can include on your blog other than reviews. You can check it out by clicking here! We also added a post on the Do's and Don'ts of blogging.
  • Amber got real and did an entire post on realistic sex scenes in YA, and their importance to readers. If that sounds like something you want to check out, click here!
  • For the first time EVER (yes, we know, we're horribly behind!), Amber decided that she wanted to dive into some audiobooks this year, and after asking for some recommendations, she came up with this list of audiobooks that she wants to read this year.

FEBRUARY 2019

  • We celebrated Valentine's Day by highlighting some of our favorite swoon-worthy reads, which you can read in this post!

MARCH 2019
  • Two of us (Amber & Jessica) celebrated our birthdays this month, which is always super fun! We both turned 21 this year!

APRIL 2019

  • We got nearly 1,000 people over the age of 18 who wanted to tell us why they still read YA even though they're past the "marketable" age-range for the genre. We had so many amazing responses that we wanted to take the time to share them all with you -- but since there are so many, it turns out that we had to make it a series! For 10 whole weeks, we shared 10 reasons (100 in total!) why "older" YA readers stick with the genre, and why it's important to them. You can check out all of our current installments here.

MAY 2019
  • It's so wild to believe that we hit the 6-year milestone on The Book Bratz this month, and we celebrated accordingly, with a giveaway and also by looking back on some of our amazing milestones! You can check out our celebratory post and giveaway by clicking here.
  • May is always the biggest month in the bookish world, and we lent a hand to the community by sharing our 2019 BookExpo and BookCon guide, which contained tips, tricks, and packing advice for both newcomers and veterans alike. We hope it helped and we would of course love to hear about any tips you may have for next year's guide!

JUNE 2019

  • We had so much fun ending off May and starting June with BookExpo and BookCon this year -- you can check our recap post and pictures by clicking here!

JULY 2019

  • We celebrated the Fourth of July with our favorite red, white, and blue reads! Check that out here!

AUGUST 2019

  • We celebrated Emily's 21st birthday!

SEPTEMBER 2019

  • We started our senior year of college! (*gasp*)
  • We talked about how blogging has changed us as readers! Amber put together a really thoughtful post on this, which you can read here!

OCTOBER 2019

  • We celebrated Halloween with our favorite spooky reads! What are some of your faves? You can check out ours here!

NOVEMBER 2019

  • We took some time to step back this month and focus on our reading and getting posts done while juggling school, so nothing super important happened on the blog this month, but it was really productive for us behind-the-scenes!

DECEMBER 2019

  • We ended another great year with so many readers, followers, writers, and friends. We love doing these posts at the end of the year and being able to see how much we've grown together!
  • We reviewed so many great books this year! You can check them all out in the archive here!

What was your favorite thing that we did on the blog this year? What are your recommendations for future posts/reviews? Comment down below and let us know! :-)

It's been such an amazing year with so many new friends, milestones, and achievements here on the blog, and we're so grateful that we got to spend another year with all of you wonderful followers and readers.
